What is bullying?

Bullying is when someone keeps doing or saying things to have power over another person. Some of the ways they bully other people are by: calling them names, saying or writing nasty things about them, leaving them out of activities, not talking to them, threatening them, making them feel uncomfortable or scared, taking or damaging their things, hitting or kicking them, or making them do things they don't want to do.

Have any of these things happened to you? Have you done any of these things to someone else? Really, bullying is wrong behaviour which makes the person being bullied feel afraid or uncomfortable.

Bullying is certainly not going to be accepted in our class or our school. We have discussed the effects of bullying in our lessons and have learned a great deal about why people bully. We decided to make an anti-bullying display labelled 'Together we can Stop Bullying!'.

This display is focussed around a jig-saw theme. We decided that this would be a good idea because we felt that friends 'link' together and that bullies are not a 'link' in the jig-saw. We all designed our own part of the jig-saw with our own ideas and feelings about bullying. The other pieces of the jig-saw were focussed on displaying pictures of us being friendly and doing good things to each other.

Our display also includes some of the posters we designed to combat bullying. We designed these posters as a way of displaying a clear message to other children in the school. The posters clearly show how bullying makes people feel and that we should all be friendly to each other.

If you think that you're being bullied or are worried about someone else who may be being bullied, please do not hesitate to come and contact your teacher or someone you know you can trust! For more information about bullying, check out the Child Line website.
