TRAFFIC LIGHT CHATTER TRACKER
This tool is used as a means of controlling the noise level within the classroom, without the teacher having to raise his/her voice. The children really love this idea and they take it very seriously!
The children are told during the start of each lesson or activity how much noise is acceptable. I change these lights during the lesson depending on the noise level.
Green Light - When the green light is on it means that the noise level is at an acceptable level.
Amber Light - The amber light is a warning to us that the noise level is getting too high.
Red Light - The red light signifies that the noise level has reached an unacceptable level and that it should return to green as soon as possible.
The children are aware of when I change the lights and they usually change their noise level immediately in correspondence with this. It usually ends up that the children tell each other to quieten down instead of me having to say anything.
